Evac’s cleantech systems meet global megatrends

Evac is the world’s leading provider of integrated waste, wastewater, and water management systems for the marine, offshore, and building industries. Sustainability is the cornerstone of Evac’s operations. The company’s technologies address the increasing need for innovative cleantech solutions, driven by the megatrends of climate change, the need for energy efficiency, and increasingly scarce freshwater resources. “At Evac, we contribute to a better environment and cleaner seas by helping our customers reduce water consumption, treat and recycle waste, manage food waste responsibly, purify wastewater, generate fresh water from sea water,” says Tomi Gardemeister, CEO of Evac Group. “At Evac we are really proud of the fact that we are not only growing but also doing really good things for our environment,” he continues.

Company growth supported by strong offering

Evac was founded in 1979 and it has a strong growth record including the past few years during which there has been a downturn in the offshore vessel businesses. Last year, the company turnover exceeded 100 MEUR for the first time in the company history. “We have boldly invested in sectors where we have seen there will be growth even if the growth will not be realized in only one or two years. We have the biggest cleantech system portfolio in our business and we have put a lot of focus on our core in-house innovation and product development,” comments Tomi Gardemeister when asked about the reasons for Evac’s success.

An example of an innovative waste management system is the Evac briquetting unit used for minimizing the storage volume of recyclable or non-recyclable dry waste on board vessels. The unit includes a shredder, a fire gate, a shredded waste storage tank, and a briquetting machine. The unit produces clean, compact briquettes with low fire risk that can be stored for on-shore processing or incinerated using an Evac advanced cyclone incinerator. This technology reduces ship waste by a factor of 10.
